Matty's Kitchen Mains

Pepper Steak

A Matthew Specialty

Difficulty
2 of 5

Ingredients

Cornstarch slurry

Steps

  1. Heat 1 tbsp of oil over medium-high. Add the meat, season with salt and pepper, and sauté until it browns. Remove the meat.
  2. Over medium heat, add 1 tbsp oil. Sauté onions until translucent, 3–4 minutes. Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds.
  3. If there is still fond left on the bottom of the pan, deglaze with a little bit of broth and scrape up with a wooden spoon.
  4. Add meat back to the pan, add bell peppers, and add the broth just until it covers the meat. Add 1 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce.
  5. Bring to a boil, then simmer over low heat until meat is tender (45–60 minutes).
  6. When meat is tender, bring to a boil over medium-high and add cornstarch slurry while constantly mixing. Continue adding until thickened.
  7. Serve over white rice or egg noodles.
